Room type – Brachytherapy
|
Brachytherapy is a form of cancer radiotherapy in which the source of radiation is placed (as by implantation as a seed, catheter or injection) in or close to the area being treated. As well as the treatment room itself, ancillary rooms such as preparation, toilets, and recovery bedrooms may also be required. Shielding for Brachytherapy rooms can vary greatly. Previous contracts have ranged between 15 & 50mm of lead. The Radiation Protection Advisor for the hospital is responsible for advising the actual shielding required and this will depend on a multitude of factors.
