Wide range of lead-bonded materials meets diverse needs
Shielding company Envirotect manufactures a range of lead-bonded materials for shielding rooms in dental, chiropractic, veterinary practices and hospitals. The boards are used to prevent radiation leakage through walls, floors and ceiling in facilities that require radiation protection. Lead can be bonded to various base boards including plasterboard and plywood, which are available at a standard thickness of 12.5mm, excluding lead thickness. Panels are manufactured to order at 600mm wide and up to 2400mm high.
Exact shielding requirements can be calculated based on a radiation protection advisor’s report or room layout drawings. To ensure full lead protection across a wall or ceiling the boards are supplied with lead battens for fixing to solid walls and ceilings, or lead fillets/strips for fixing to timber battens to studwork. Battens and fillets are used to seal the radiation path where the boards abut at the joints.
Envirotect holds code 3 (1.32mm L/E), code 4 (1.8mm L/E) and code 5 (2.24mm L/E) lead in stock ready to commence with manufacture. Other thicknesses are available to order.
“Door skins are a cost-effective option that allows existing doors to be upgraded with lead protection.” The company says. “The lead is pressure bonded to 4mm MDF panels for covering existing doors where a new shielded door and frame set has not been specified.”
All lead-lined shielding products can be delivered to site throughout the UK. Small quantities can be delivered by a long wheelbase vehicle, with larger quantities dispatched on wrapped pallets and curtain sided lorries.
